‘All gifts are from the Gods,’ my Great-Grandmother used to say.
My Mom reminded me of this, this afternoon.
My Mom, among many other great things, is an amazing and very gifted teacher, who’s taught music and art for over 60 years. It’s hard to overstate the impact she’s had on the creative lives of thousands of people.
She also said to me this afternoon, ‘I have always thought there’s something in each person that can transform into something wonderful.’
Isn’t this a tremendous and important idea?
How often we get caught up in our own devices and desires, in the web of others’ devices and desires, their real or perceived expectations. How often we judge others and we forget to see what in each person can transform into something wonderful. To realize the gift of their creativity, their gifts from the Gods.
How often we do this to ourselves.
Thanks, Mom, for reminding me: We can use our own gifts. We can help others transform into theirs. We should. This is a beautiful thing. It’s part of what makes us beautiful as human beings.

P.s., if you haven’t recently, call your Mother. Tell her. If you have, call her again.
